Jazz violinist and MacArthur "Genius" Regina Carter never met her grandfather, but she was drawn to the music of his era. In "Southern Comfort," she returned to her musical roots in the South. Carter was born and grew up in Detroit, and now lives in New Jersey. State of the Arts caught up with her at SOPAC in South Orange, NJ, in a performance that was part of her national tour.
